Why is there no free plan?
A free tier invites abuse that wrecks deliverability for everyone — and “free” email is usually paid for with your data. We charge a fair price so your inbox is never the product.
What's the difference between the base and Plus plans?
Capacity only. Storage and custom-domain counts go up; on Business, audit-log retention and support response get stronger. The encryption is identical on every plan — we don't sell safety in tiers.
Can I leave whenever I want?
Yes. Export everything in standard formats and go. No lock-in is the entire point — your data, your keys, your exit.
Do I need to be technical?
No. Sign up and your @thelemail.com mailbox works immediately — nothing to host, no DNS to touch. Want your own domain? Paste a few records we generate.
What happens if I add people mid-year?
Business is billed per mailbox. Add or remove people and we prorate the difference — you only pay for who's actually using it.
What's the founder rate-lock?
Sign up while we're young and your annual price is fixed for as long as you keep the subscription active — even when our list prices rise. It's our thank-you to the people who back us early.
What if I forget my password?
Your mailbox is encrypted with a key derived from your password, which we never store. If you lose both your password and your recovery method, we can't decrypt your stored mail — that's zero-access working as designed. We'll help you set up recovery at signup.
How many custom domains do I get?
Personal includes 1 (3 on Plus). Family includes 2 (4 on Plus). Business includes up to 5 on Team and up to 10 on Business — more on request. We add domains rather than force you up a tier.
How do I pay?
By card or cryptocurrency. Your subscription is the only thing we charge — no add-ons or usage fees waiting at renewal.
Upgrade between plans or products anytime; we prorate the unused portion of your current plan against the new one.
